In the first quarter started Watson. Maurice Watson with an accurate throw for three. Stargard players didn’t make a trip to Torun where they lost to local team by not much of an advantage. From the very beginning they didn’t play well against their rivals on Friday evening, looking weak in defense and organization of their attack. Already the first quarter of this game showed that hosts were leading in the first 5 minutes of the game and the score was 10-7, then Twarde Pierniki,
Twarde Pierniki attacked and jumped out to 12:7 lead. Certainly Toruń want to prove that this year they want to fight for the championship and be the best in the country. Good coverage all around and good actions by the hosts we had a little bit of positional attack thanks to players from the home team who played Szymon Janczak, James Eads, Jahenns Manigat and Aaron Cel, they managed to work out some good actions and the lead grew to 11 points and at the end of the buzzer the quarter ended 22 to 11.

Second quarter good decisions by Toruń 47 year old coach Ivica Skelin and Pierniki was doing well and controlled the game till the end. The lead reached 15 points but guests started to play well on defense and that resulted in fewer losses. After series of miscues Toruń had advantage but unfortunately it was only 10 points because of poor shooting from distance and on the boards. James Eads had three fouls and coach Skelin had to make a decision to sit on the bench. Jacobi Boykins who had 14 points in the game made a couple of threes in the quarter and Spojnia was down by only 7 points. Score on the board ended the first half to 40:33.

In the third quarter it seemed that Toruń would win the game by a large margin and already settled the match in their favor before the last quarter but no .Pierniki lost the rhythm in the fourth quarter in attack and there were problems with players’ fouls and the visitors even came close to three points. In the 29th minute they rebuilt the lead to the record size (66:48). Coach Skelin was only disturbed by foul trouble of Eads, Bartosz Diduszko and Trevor Thompson. With 30 seconds left James Eads scored the key points by getting under the basket and finishing with a great layup and was fouled.

After Michał Kołodziej shot from behind the arc the visitors managed to build 18 point lead. Toruń fans were looking anxiously towards the scoreboard because at the end of the third quarter three of Twardych Gingerbread players had 4 fouls.

Trevor Thompson defended well and held Toruń to 11 points.

In the fourth PGE Spójnia played better and was more efficient. After couple of three-pointers from behind the arc they started to get dangerously close and after Justin Gray basket and his three-pointer visitors were able to get closer at 80:77 but it didn’t have any impact on the final outcome of the game 17:26 and in total Toruń won 85:77

We are happy with today’s victory, the second in a row at home. It is very important to win at home. Today we played very well, apart from the last two or three minutes, where we unfortunately got a bit lazy. I think we made a step forward comparing to last week’s game. Let’s hope the next match will be another step. Aaron Cel was interviewed by Polsat Sport.
