Coaches can request replays . New Powers.
I write today about an interesting change in the NBA that coaches can request video replays during the game. When the referee makes a decision on a foul, unsportsmanlike, or technical and foul offensa or blocking then the coach will also be able to see the video and make his own opinion. Interesting solution goes with the new video technology
The NBA Board of Governors has decided to change the rules in the basketball league for the 2021/22 season. Not the referees, but the coaches will be able to request an immediate video replay during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime in case of a questionable offside
The change was introduced for a trial period in the coming season. The rule change was requested by a committee made up of representatives of players, coaches, governors, team managers and the referees themselves.
Until now, coaches have not been allowed to question arbitrators’ decisions on these issues at key moments in matches, although they could do so at an earlier stage of games. It has often happened at the end of games that coaches have disagreed with decisions made because they were closer to the player than the referees and it was easier for them to judge whether or not a line had been crossed.
