World Cup 2022 Croatia win bronze medal at World Cup in Qatar. Croatia wins against Morocco

World Cup: The promotion of Morocco and Croatia is a surprise at this World Cup for sure . Belgium , Germany , Spain out of the tournament are such powerhouses already at home , and these teams have won something amazing for their countries .

In the match for third place the teams that competed against each other at the beginning of the tournament met.

The group rivalry ended in a goalless draw. In the knockout phase, both teams surprised the world.

Croatia eliminated Brazil, while Morocco eliminated Spain and Portugal.

After losing the semi-finals – to Argentina (0:3) and France (0:2) respectively – selectors Zlatko Dalić and Walid Regragui made several changes to the squad.

For the Moroccans, despite defeats in their last two matches of the tournament (they succumbed to France 0:2 in the semi-finals), this is a historic result, as they are the first African country to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup.
In the past, Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010) have all reached the quarter-finals.

Atlas Lions’ selector Walid Regragui replaced Bosnian Vahid Halilhodzic, who had been criticised for his personnel decisions, just three months before the World Cup and quickly found common ground with his new charges. The results included a sensational 2:0 victory over Belgium in the group stage, elimination (after a penalty shootout) of Spain in the 1/8 final and a 1:0 win against Portugal in the quarter-finals.

In the first half, both teams played boldly, without calculation .

The Croatians took the lead as early as the seventh minute.  After a very spectacular action, the goal was scored by defender Josko Gvardiol, who also scored with his head and was assisted by the experienced Ivan Perisic.   The Croatians’ joy at the goal was, however, very short-lived. Already in the 9th minute Morocco equalised after a head strike by Achraf Dari.

3′ A bizarre situation. Bounou kicked the ball so unluckily that it flew… along the goal line

7′ (1:0) Superbly played free kick. Lovro Majer softly passed the ball to Ivan Perisić. The latter played it with his head to Josko Gvardiol, who beat Yassine Bounou in the same way.

9′ (1:1) Instant response, also after a free kick! Hakim Ziyech’s not-so-good throw-in was blocked by Majer, but quite by chance the ball found its way to Yacine Dari. The stopper hit the net from a few metres.

18′ Perisić centred from the left to the head of Andrej Kramarić. Bounou caught the ball without any trouble.

24′ Modrić fired a flat shot from outside the 16. Bounou knocked the ball out of the goal area with great problems.

37′ Ziyech played in from a corner kick, Youssef En-Nesyri extended the flight of the ball, but nobody cut in front of goal.

After the change of sides the match went better for the Croats , who attacked more and created more interesting actions .

Before the end of the first half, however, a goal was scored, and as it turned out later, the last goal of the match. The Croatians made a quick run and Mislav Orsić finished it off with a superb strike.

It was in the 42nd minute that Orsić took a beautiful shot into the long corner. The ball flew over the goalkeeper, bounced off the post and into the goal.

47′ Strong strike by Orsić. The ball hit the side netting after a ricochet.

61′ Kramarić leaves the pitch with an injury. Moments later the same reason was the reason for the change of Dari and Jawad El-Yamiq.

71′ Powerful shot by Nikola Vlasić from distance. A good attempt, although off target.

75′ After a midfield pass En-Nesyri found himself alone with Livakovic. The Croatian goalkeeper triumphed in this contest. Moments earlier, Gvardiol was knocked over by Sofyan Amrabat in the Morocco penalty area. The referee did not see the foul. A very controversial decision.
87′ Mateo Kovacić bowled over the Moroccans in the penalty area but missed from a few metres.

90’+7 Last chance for the Moroccans. En-Nesyri heads in from a few metres, but over the crossbar!

The Croatian national team won a medal for the third time in their sixth appearance at the World Cup.

On Saturday, they were beaten in Ar-Rajjan by tournament revelation Morocco, who fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The Balkans finished third in 1998 and second in 2018.

In the end, the ‘Atlas Lions’ failed to become the first African and Arab team to stand on the World Cup podium.
