Legia Warsaw won fifteenth championship of Poland. The capital club became the most successful team in the history of the football competition in Poland .
On Sunday, at the stadium of Legia Warsaw, a match of the capital team against Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała took place, after which Legia Warsaw celebrated the defense of the title of Polish Champion
We had 19 minutes on the clock and it could have been a goal! Kapustka played the ball with Skibicki and managed to take a shot, which was defended by the goalkeeper. Kapustka kept the ball in the field and threw it to Lopes, but he hit his head over the goal!
The match was very tense from the start with both teams playing together.
Robert Kasperczyk’s charges also had their chances. As early as in the 12th minute, Marko Roginic found himself in a convenient situation, but the Croatian striker was blocked by Artur Jędrzejczyk at the last moment. With time, however, Legia had an increasing advantage.
In the 18th minute Bartosz Kapustka wasted a one-on-one situation, and a moment later Rafael Lopes misfired. Six minutes later, however, the Portuguese striker was already flawless and effectively used the pass of the Croatian Josip Juranovic.
The best action crowned with success took place in the 24th minute, when Juranovic threw the ball from in front of the penalty area, Rafael Lopes stepped to it perfectly and beat the goalkeeper with his head. Legia leads 1:0!
The second half started with a change of goalkeeper for Legia. Artur Boruc was replaced by Radosław Cierzniak, for whom it was an opportunity to say goodbye to the Warsaw team. The club’s owners decided not to extend his expiring contract.
The visitors tried to attack from 50 minutes of the second half and tried to impose their own pace and take the initiative. A lot of work for the goalkeeper Cierzniak after entering the field. The guests do not spare themselves from Posbeskidzia want to lead to a draw and stay in the Ekstraklasa .
Already elapsed 72 minutes of play and we have a free kick for Legia from the corner of the penalty area. Martins throw-in and a defender knocks the ball out for a corner kick but nothing came out of it was a chance to lead.
Podbeskidzie tried several times to hit from distance without success. For Legia, Pawel Wszołek was close to a goal in the 76th minute, but his flat shot was defended by Peskovic.
During the last round the fans returned to the stands. Their celebration of Legia’s championship with flares and smoke candles meant that in the 80th minute referee Tomasz Frankowski was forced to stop the game due to lack of visibility. After a few minutes the teams went down to the tunnel. Eventually the game was able to resume after about ten minutes . The referee added an additional 10 minutes.
This match lasted a very long time because we have 103′ minute of the match. The extension of the match was, of course, due to the break caused by the smoke from different flares and pyrotechnics. The referee calls the end of the match. Legia becomes the Champion of Poland, and Podbeskidzie after a year of playing says goodbye to the PKO Ekstraklasa.
Legia Warsaw celebrate their 15th championship, which is a record. Ruch Chorzów and Górnik Zabrze have 14 titles to their credit. Previously, the capital team won the league in the years: 1955, 1956, 1969, 1970, 1994, 1995, 2002, 2006, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.
