Igia Swiatek’s triumph in Mexico at the Cancún Cup is her .

The Mexican final was the ninth direct clash between Swiatek and Pegula. Six times the Pole won and three times her final rival. It was one of the best games in Mexico this year for Iga Swiatek.

Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula faced each other in the final of the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico. The Pole came out on top, winning 6:1, 6:0 and thus triumphing in this prestigious tournament for the first time in her career.

In the first set, Swiatek did not give her rival much of a chance and won 6:1. As it turned out, the second set took a similar course. This time, the tennis player from Raszyn triumphed… to zero and won the whole match 2:0.
Thanks to the win in Cancun, the best Polish tennis player will return to the number one position in the WTA world ranking, overtaking Aryna Sabalenka.

Both Swiatek and Pegula were unbeaten at the WTA Finals in Cancun before the final. The Pole won against Czech Marketa Vondrousova, American Coco Gauff and Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the group stage, before getting the better of Belarusian Sabalenka in the semi-finals. The American defeated Rybakina, Sabalenka and Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the group stage, while in the semi-finals she dealt with Gauff, who is her doubles partner.
