FC Barcelona Champion of La Liga in Spain. Celta Vigo beat FC Barcelona 2-1 at home, but Robrert Lewandowski still became top scorer with 23 goals and won the Pichichi Trophy.

Celta Vigo won at home 2-1 and two goals for the club were scored by Gabri Veiga 42`, 65`. FC Barcelona still tried to tie the game but failed and we saw the only goal scored for the Catalans by Ansu Fati 79`.

Barcelona finished the 2022/2023 season with 88 points and regained the title after four years. On Sunday, the fate of the vice-championship was decided in favour of Real Madrid.

“The royals” tied Athletic Bilbao 1:1 and second place in the table was secured by a goal at 2:2 scored by Jorge Pascual of… Villarreal in added time in a meeting with capital Atletico. Had local rival Real won, they would have been runners-up.

Robert Lewandowski was already Spanish champion with Barcelona in his first season in La Liga. The Pole also reached for the Trofeo Pichichi, the award for top scorer of the competition. He won by a clear margin over second-placed Karim Benzema. Check out the final classification.

Robert Lewandowski became the Spanish league’s top scorer! The Pole did not score in the last match of the season , but no one threatened him

They were in 17th place before the kick-off and had to be on their guard to avoid slipping below the line at the very end, which would have meant a bye to La Liga.

There was a lot going on on the pitch right from the start. One team or the other tried to surprise the opponent, although this did not translate into greater concreteness. Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ivan Villar were able to cope with accurate but not very powerful shots respectively.

In the first quarter of an hour, Franck Kessie found his way into the net after Robert Lewandowski had ripped the ball, but after a VAR analysis, a burn was rightly whistled. Celta took advantage, albeit only in the 42nd minute. Haris Seferovic served Gabri Veiga and the latter hit the net for the Catalan Pride and Barcelona were losing 0:1 by the break.

The hosts also entered the second leg better. There was not much going on at first, but in the 65th minute Carles Perez passed to Veiga and he completed the double with a ‘centre-shot’. The Celta player’s strike completely credited Inaki Pena, who had been introduced on the pitch moments earlier.

The Catalans still tried to fight for a favourable result and, in a way, they succeeded in the 80th minute. Ousmane Dembele served Ansu Fati and the latter scored at 1:2 with a head shot from close range.

There was not enough time for more and it was Celta who pocketed the three points, thus keeping themselves in La Liga. Barcelona, meanwhile, finished the season ten points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.

Interestingly, Robert Lewandowski is the fifth Barcelona player to win the Pichichi Trophy in his first season at the club:

1.Hans Krankl (1978/79)
2.Quini (1980/81)
3.Romário (1993/94)
4.Ronaldo (1996/97)
5.Robert Lewandowski (2022/23)

This is the tenth top scorer statuette in his career. He first won it in the 2007/08 season in the colours of Znicz Pruszków in the 2nd league. Then he won the award at Lech Poznań, when he scored 18 goals.

After that, he picked up the cannon for the Bundesliga’s top scorer on as many as seven occasions, and five in a row in recent seasons in the colours of Bayern. Notably, he scored 41 goals in the 2020/21 season. In doing so, he broke Gerd Mueller’s near 50-year-old record (40).
