EBLK: THE FIFTH DEFEAT IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE WISŁY KRAKÓW “WHITE STAR” MUST FIND A SPONSOR AND GO STRAIGHT AHEAD. DGT POLITECHNIKA GDAŃSKA – KRAKÓW WISŁA KRAKÓW 70:63 (23:21, 13:20, 18:16, 16:6)

On Saturday, December 7 basketball players from Politechnika Gdańska took up Wisla Krakow in front of their own audience. Although “White Star” this season is doing a little worse than in the previous season, no doubt this is a demanding rival and still fighting for the highest goals.

The basketball players of the Polytechnic started with a strong blow of the charges of Vadim Czeczuro. Alice Neyo opened the result of the game with a throw from under the basket. Both teams threw a lot and accurately, and after just over three minutes, after accurate throws from behind Klaudia Niedźwiedzka’s bow and twice Presley Hudson, the home team led 15:9. Wisła Kraków responded with “threes” by Katarzyna Trzeciak and Magdalena Ziętara, which allowed the visitors to eliminate the loss to two points after the first quarter.

When it seemed that everything was under control, the players of the Politechnika Gdańska  got caught up with the crisis of the “second quarter”, which has not left our team since the beginning of the season. Wisła players thanks to stronger defense and effective play in the attack systematically made up for the loss and then came to the lead. The highest, 11-point advantage was achieved by Stefan Svitka’s charges in the third quarter. The leaders of the “White Star” in this match were Chloe Wells, Gabija Meskonyte and Kadri-Ann Lass, but their effective play was not enough to get two points out of Gdańsk.

The third quarter from the 6:0 series was started by visitors, who increased their lead to 11 points. The hosts managed to return to the game after three Bujniak and action 2 plus 1 Blanket. The charges of coach Czeczuro played more aggressively in defense and forced their rivals to make mistakes, so they managed to win the third quarter 18:16 and before the last part of the game Wisła advantage was only 3 points.

The fourth quarter turned out to be crucial for Wisła Kraków’s match, and the Kraków players lost as much as 6:16. As a result, despite the fact that at the beginning of this decisive game they led by 5 points, they had to come to terms with the fifth league defeat.

The last points were scored by Martyna Koc and Politechnika could celebrate the fifth victory of this season.

Stefan Svitek (coach of Wisła Kraków): I would like to congratulate my athletes on their victory. We gave a lot of energy in defense. From the very beginning, we managed to stop our opponent in the attack. In our heads are still those two highly lost matches and I think that the players are still too tense in the attack so we do not hit from good, straight positions. We have to stop it and I hope that the shooting effectiveness will come into play. Once again, congratulations on the victory.

Gabija Meškonytė (Wisła Kraków player): I am very satisfied with today’s victory. I think that today our defense game, especially in the first half, was quite good. We made a lot of missed throws from easy positions, we missed a lot of throws from under the basket. We have hard work ahead of us, we have to work harder on our shooting efficiency. We have more matches ahead of us, which I hope we will win.
