… in their final pre-season friendly, scoring four goals in their last friendly before the new Sky Bet Championship season. Adama Randella, Ross McCrory (two) and Emil Riis scored the goals to secure the victory.
Having been at the match, I can tell you that it was worth watching and being there on that day because everyone was already missing the league and the matches, as well as coming to the stadium, cheering and watching these Championship matches. We missed football so much. Bristol City defeated Spanish second division team Real Valladolid 4-0 in their final friendly match before the 2025-2026 season.
As I watched from the start of the match, Bristol City kicked off the new season with a friendly, defeating Spanish team Real Valladolid 4-0. It promises to be a good 2025–2026 season, and we will see if Bristol City will be able to advance to the Premier League this time and if we will see teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa, etc. here at Ashton Gate Stadium. We are eagerly awaiting the new season.
I had the opportunity to attend a friendly match on that beautiful Saturday afternoon, 2 August 2025, at 3 p.m. , and I can tell you that you should be sorry you weren’t there. There was a great atmosphere and an excellent match. That’s how you can enjoy a match when the Bristol team wins and scores a lot of unexpected goals. to be precise, we saw four goals at Ashton Gate, and it was an important match because you could see that both teams were in good physical shape and condition.
It looked promising that there would be an even match here in Bristol and good football, but unfortunately I was wrong, it was a one-sided match, as we say, one actor, and I did not expect Bristol City would dominate the match from the very beginning and that the match would go their way. In fact, the result could have been different because it could have ended 6-0 instead of 4-0. We will see this season, everything will verify our feelings and the hard work at the club. We are definitely waiting for the final result.
The hosts demonstrated their class in this friendly match with good organisation, good teamwork, good communication and quick passes between themselves, and that is why they won 4-0 against the Spanish team Real Valladolid, which not so long ago played in La Liga in Spain and now plays in the second division because they were relegated last season. So they came to play this match in Bristol to improve their skills and raise their level again in the British Isles, because for several years now there has been a good level of football here, not only in the Premier League, but also in the Championship at Ashton Gate Stadium.
Bristol started the match at a good level, with fast action and good organisation in defence. It is clear that the hosts did their homework during their pre-season training camp at Ashton Gate. It is also clear that they have tremendous determination and a hunger to win, which they had last season when they played in the play-offs after a long absence, and maybe this season they will finally manage to get promoted to the Premier League. There definitely need to be more fans at a match like this, because today we have few fans or families. Maybe for matches like this, ticket prices should be lowered and more families with children should be invited, as well as children from schools with their teachers. We have a good move that ends with a pass to Anis Mehmeti, who plays a good pass to Randell, who directed the ball to the bottom right corner of the goal and scored a beautiful goal so early in the friendly match, because in the 4th minute of the match we have the first goal 1-0 for Bristol and in this way they quickly take the lead at their stadium at Ashton Gate.
We didn’t have to wait long, as another fine team move ended with Scott Twine making an impressive reception, before showing his technique to create space for a pass to Ross McCrorie. The Scot had an empty net in front of him and gave the hosts an early two-goal lead.
6′ We have a team move that ended with a good pass from Scott Twine, who then showed good technique to create himself a favourable position and passed to Ross McCrorie. What’s going on here? The hosts immediately launch a quick counterattack and Ross McCrorie scores into an empty net, giving Bristol City a 2-0 lead.
15` We have several coherent fast actions on both sides, as well as counterattacks created at the moment we see that a good match is beginning, with both teams wanting to show what they are capable of and that they want to score as many goals as possible here.
30 minutes in, we had an unpleasant collision between two players, with the Japanese player colliding HEAD-ON with the Real player wearing the number 17 shirt. The referee intervened quickly and the player got up and felt better.
34th minute, we had a penalty for the visitors, and Marcos Andre, number 9, stepped up to take it, but unfortunately he did not score the goal, which could have reduced the deficit on that day. Unfortunately, it did not work out for him.
43 ` Real’s quick attack, but ineffective because it was not well thought out. The ball rebounded in the penalty area from Andre, who did not receive it accurately and could not score in this situation because the ball bounced out.
44` We have our first offside. The Spanish players may not be happy because this well-executed move could have resulted in the first goal, but unfortunately, the hosts quickly began to attack the visitors.
In the 80th minute, Rob Atkinson was replaced by Rob Dickie, and Randella was replaced by Adam Murphy.
McCrorie scored his second goal of the match
However, in the 87th minute, there was a mistake in Real Valladolid’s defence. Yeboah played the ball across the penalty area to the Scot, who had plenty of space and managed to put it in the bottom corner of the goal for 4-0.
